Young Person’s Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) – Two Day Full Training
Focus: Catholic Life
For: CSELs, Headteachers, Heads, Deputies, SENDCOs, DSLs, Pastoral Teams, Wellbeing Leads and other staff that support children
Description:
This accredited course qualifies participants as a Mental Health First Aider and provides practical skills to recognise signs of common mental health difficulties, respond supportively and confidently, and signpost to appropriate support.
Alongside the core MHFA England curriculum, the course also draws on Hugo Metcalfe’s 15+ years of experience working across mental health services in the UK, including the NHS, CAMHS, schools and universities. The training has been tailored specifically for education settings, combining the standard MHFA content with additional tools, strategies and real-world examples relevant to supporting both students and colleagues in school environments.
Delegates will develop a broader understanding of mental health, stress and emotional wellbeing, alongside practical approaches that can be applied within everyday school life, including how to:
- Recognise early signs of distress and emotional overwhelm
- Approach supportive conversations with confidence and compassion
- Respond calmly to anxiety, panic and emotional distress
- Support the wellbeing of both students and colleagues
- Maintain healthy professional boundaries
- Contribute to a psychologically safer and more supportive school culture
- Look after their own wellbeing while supporting others
Upon successful completion, delegates will receive an MHFA Certificate and qualify as a Mental Health First Aider
Only 16 delegates can attend this course.
There is a subsidised cost of £170 per delegate. This includes course materials and additional resources sent by post.
Due to demand for places, non-attendance will incur repayment of the full course cost of £200.

Director’s Note:
Get at least one person trained on this. It’s worth it. Even better if you have multiple staff trained.
