I’m Therese Hoyle, bestselling author of 101 Playground Games, How to be a Peaceful School and founder of the Flourishing Schools and Positive Playtime Programmes. My empowering whole-school, wellbeing programmes address problem behaviour, build relationships, social and emotional skills and teach children and adults to be more tolerant, friendly and kind.

As a teacher, I regularly spent large chunks of precious learning time, resolving playground squabbles that spilled over into the classroom. Upset children returned to lessons in an emotional state. Many of them were unable to learn for the rest of the afternoon.

I was surrounded by some of the most talented and experienced teachers. But I saw the negative impact of poorly trained support staff, unstructured playtimes and lack of co-operative play. Chaotic lunchtimes were harming the well-being and self-esteem of our children.

It’s why I’ve spent the last 20+ years developing and refining my Whole School Positive Playground Programme. My mission is to help you re-invigorate your playtimes and see your whole school flourish.

Lunchtime Supervisor Superheroes (Day 2 of 2)

Focus: Catholic Life
For: Anyone who supports lunchtimes, breakfast or after school clubs

Description:

Empower your lunchtime staff with the skills and confidence to manage behaviour positively, build relationships, reduce conflict, and create calm, happy playtimes.

This fun, interactive and highly practical online workshop builds on the success of How to Be a Lunchtime Superhero – Part 1 and takes playtime practice to the next level.

Led by Thérèse Hoyle, international education consultant, coach, and author of 101 Playground Games, 101 Wet Playtime Games and Activities, and The Big Book of Whole School Wellbeing, this session equips lunchtime supervisors to build positive relationships, manage behaviour confidently and consistently, and create playtimes that truly enhance the school day. By the end of the session, participants will feel confident and motivated to build stronger relationships, manage behaviour calmly and consistently, and create lunchtimes that enhance wellbeing across the school day.

Outcomes: Participants will learn how to:

  • Promote positive, purposeful, and enjoyable lunchtimes for all pupils
  • Build relationships that foster trust, respect, and connection
  • Manage behaviour positively using proactive, restorative approaches and positive language
  • Develop consistent, positive behaviour systems that reduce conflict and promote kindness
  • Create calm, harmonious dining environments
  • Establish or strengthen Playground Activity Leaders (PALS) to champion active, inclusive play
