Diane PyeDiane Pye has worked as a teacher, curriculum leader, headteacher, inspector, trainer and speaker. She is an expert in curriculum design. Diane inspects for Ofsted, worked with the curriculum unit and contributed to the HMI subject reports in 2023 and 2024.
Diane is well known as an inspirational and motivational trainer and speaker who brings informed clarity and simplicity to curriculum thinking. Diane works with all phases from early years through to secondary. She has a proven track record in school improvement, which has been recognised in school performance and inspection outcomes. In recent years, Diane’s training has won several national awards.
Diane is passionate about top-quality curriculum design that inspires pupils and teachers alike. She has an excellent knowledge of current accountability measures and the rationale and research that sit behind the renewed inspection framework 2025.
Until 2020, Diane was the headteacher of a primary school in Shropshire, which she led to outstanding judgements in both Ofsted and SIAMS inspections.
In 2010, Diane wrote a successful children’s book. She has visited schools as an author and been involved in projects to raise reading standards in primary schools.

Description:
This course explains how pupils make meaningful progress in history. It includes ideas, examples, resources and routines to use in school. Informed by the HMI subject review, the history subject report and current curriculum thinking, the course covers how to:
- plan meaningful learning in history
- secure key concepts and knowledge
- identify and emphasise crucial content that helps children to get better at history
- make sure children know more, remember more and can do more in history.
Attendees will come away with lots of crucial information about effective curriculum design, classroom practice and progress in history.
