The Listening Ears Programme

Focus: Catholic Life
For: Headteachers, deputies, middle leaders, SENDCOs, TAs

Description:

Providing 1:1 wellbeing support as part of a School Wellbeing Culture does not need to be complex and ’Therapeutic conversations’ need not only occur in the therapy room. After many years workings in the NHS and CAMHS and feeling as if he was only able to offer support to select people who made it through the door, Hugo designed this evidence-based programme to provide everyday skills for people to provide Mental Health First Aid to one another. Hugo will share tools, and knowledge from the world of Psychology and Psychotherapy to help people engage in therapeutic conversations and offer effective initial support to people struggling with their Mental Health.

This programme is designed to give staff the skills needed to:

  • Engage in reflective conversations with staff and students about mental health and wellbeing.
  • Developing skills to assess risk and effectively identify the ‘Need’ underpinning the behaviour.
  • Learn communication techniques to respond with compassion and offer effective support and encouragement.
  • Sign-post individuals to appropriate help, within the school and externally.

Director’s Note:

Have you already attended MHFA with Hugo (or another provider) and thought, ‘yeah, I get the theory, but what do I actually do?’ This is the course for you. I am really looking forward to this one.
