Introduction

In 2006, the first link was established by BCPP schools with Swedish schools in Eskilstuna. Since then there have been many exchanges of visitors between the two cities, allowing international job shadowing and other collaborative works and cooperation.

October 2019

A trip by seven Birmingham Catholic Primary Partnership headteachers to schools in Eskilstuna.

September 2019

A visit from five deputy headteachers from Eskilstuna schools and six members of staff from Skogstorpsskolan. A number of these were secondary English teachers who spent some time shadowing colleagues in the UK.

A trip by one BCPP deputy headteacher and six senior teachers in BCPP schools to Eskilstuna in the final reciprocal visits in the 2017-2019 Erasmus+ funded project allowing staff to experience an international job shadowing placement.

April 2019

A visit from three Eskilstuna teachers to Birmingham to observe practice in BCPP schools as the third part of a shared 2017-2019 Erasmus+ funded project.

November 2018

A visit from one Eskilstuna headteacher, eleven senior teachers and the International Coordinator from Eskilstuna schools to Birmingham to experience an international job shadowing placement in a BCPP school as the second part of a shared 2017-2019 Erasmus+ funded project.

A further two Eskilstuna students from Rinman Technical College visited Birmingham for a month to participate in a work placement in BCPP schools.

October 2018

A trip by two BCPP headteacher’s and six senior teachers in BCPP schools to Eskilstuna in the second of three reciprocal visits in the 2017-2019 Erasmus+ funded project allowing staff to experience an international job shadowing placement.

Two Eskilstuna students from Rinman Technical College visited Birmingham for a month to participate in a work placement in BCPP schools

September 2014

Pre-planning trip to Eskilstuna in preparation for an Erasmus+ bid by BCPP officers. BCPP officers visited the Eskilstuna International coordinator, a local university and the Eskilstuna Education Department. Thera were also trips by students from Newman University to Eskilstuna in this month.

A trip by eight UK headteachers to Eskilstuna in March for job shadowing took place.

Students travelled to Eskilstuna from Newman University.

October 2013

A visit from eight Headteachers from Eskilstuna to Birmingham for job shadowing took place.

March 2013

The Director travelled to Eskilstuna Education Department and the schools to be used in this work shadowing interchange in March 2013, again at the expense of the BCPP. University links were set up as a result.

2012

The study visit leader and eight teachers from the linked schools travelled to Eskilstuna to attend a Comenius Preparatory Visit. Programme of visits has gone on for the last five years from the Comenius Multi-lateral Programme. There was also a visit from staff and students from Eskilstuna to Birmingham.

October 2009

A reciprocal visit from seven of the participating Swedish schools (twenty-one teachers and twelve students) to Birmingham (18 October 2009 to 22 October 2009).

March 2009

Nine senior managers involved in curriculum-based projects travelled to Eskilstuna. The visit ended with signings of Memorandums of Understanding. On-going links and collaborative work have continued with this group to date.

December 2008

The study visit leader and three teachers from the linked schools travelled to Eskilstuna to attend a Comenius Preparatory Visit.

September 2008

The Chief Education Officer from Eskilstuna and the International Coordinator visited Birmingham to view schools and to plan for further cooperation.

June 2008

Two teachers from the Nature School of Eskilstuna visited Birmingham to view the environmental support centres and schools.

March 2008

The study visit coordinator travelled to Eskilstuna to:

  • Visit the schools involved in the Autumn 2007 visit to the UK.
  • Identify a further five Swedish partner schools, to match the five additional schools visited by the Swedish teachers, during their Autumn 2007 visit.
  • Develop plans for this study visit (March 2009).
  • Meet senior officers from Eskilstuna Local Authority to discuss expanding links.

October 2007

A reciprocal visit from five of the participating Swedish schools in Autumn 2007. This party was made up of eighteen teachers and four pupils.

October 2006

The first link established by BCPP schools with Swedish schools, took the form of a Teachers International Professional Development trip by five UK schools to Eskilstuna.
